It was a beautiful day on the waterfront as the Star Lutas tied up at the State Pier in Portsmouth, marking the final phase of another successful cargo operation for Pepperrell Cove Marine Services (PCMS).
What many people don’t see when watching a vessel arrive at port is the amount of planning, coordination, and labor that begins long before the ship reaches its final berth. For the Star Lutas, PCMS crews were involved from the very beginning of the operation.
The project started in the Port of Boston, where the vessel began lightering—transferring portions of its salt cargo to reduce draft and allow for safe movement to its next destination. Lightering is a critical step in many marine cargo operations, requiring precise coordination between vessel crews, shoreside teams, and cargo handlers to ensure both efficiency and safety.
PCMS crews were on site in Boston supporting the operation, helping manage the logistics and labor required to keep the offload moving smoothly. Our team worked alongside port partners to ensure the vessel remained on schedule.
Once the Star Lutas had reduced enough cargo, the vessel made its way north to the State Pier in Portsmouth to complete the remainder of the offload. There, PCMS crews resumed operations, continuing the transfer of salt and supporting the final unloading process.
